SSiO at Kartdagarna in Hälsingborg

During the spring of 2023, April 18 – 20, the annual industry conference for
map/GIS and measurement people – #Kartdagarna# – was arramged. During these three days, approximately 700 participants enjoyed around 80 seminars, a fair with around 20 exhibitors and several workshops. All under themes and subject areas such as GIS, Geodesy, City planning, remote sensing and more. Here we participated from SSIO through our partner SOKIGO, both in exhibition and lecture.

It is ”Kartografiska sällskapet” that organizes these industry days every year with participants/members from all over the country. Most come from the public sector, but there are also other industries that work with the included subject matters.

About digital twins

This year’s big draw and interest, both in terms of lectures and the fair, landed right in the middle of one of our work areas – the City’s Control Room/Digital twin.

Through Sokigo’s work on this in SSIO, the project has produced demonstrations for the city of Skellefteå. In the effort to be able to achieve a good visualization and analysis of sensor data from our IOT set-up in Skellefteå with real-time communication between devices and servers with, among other things, LoRa networks, we incorporated digital maps and GIS into the project early on.

Digital twin of Skellefteå

In this work, in addition to getting the best data sources through collaboration with the municipality, we have also looked at how to sustainably develop and manage a basic but ”useful” digital twin. In addition to our aspect, these are used for urban planning, light/shadow analyses, risk analyzes (e.g. flooding) etc… We have also worked on integrating CAD/BIM models from planning and drawing objects. Entire houses described in detail in terms of materials and construction. Very exciting.

Sokigo’s monter

In the booth and in one of the sessions, we got to show a few different aspects of the digital twin and here exemplify the results we produced in SSIO. It attracted great interest and showed that curiosity about the third dimension and the concept of real time is interesting for the cities and regions of the future. We showed the benefits and how to build the foundation for a digital twin – and a little about the future with the control room where you can read with sensors – but also control certain processes with technology. Whether it’s heating in buildings or diverting traffic due to bad air. Very successful days and we both got a good impression of the arrangement and gave many people inspiration.
